Roadblocks

I have a confession to make: I’m a slow writer.  Not just in the sense that the words do some slowly when I’m actually sitting in front of the computer, but also in the sense that I don’t get a lot of time to sit in front of the computer.

“But, Gen,” you’re probably saying, “you’re sitting at home with your kids all day!  What are you doing all day long?”

Well, simultaneous naptimes never really happened, and Kid #2 is a terrible sleeper, and the house and the homestead take a lot of work, and there’s trips to the YMCA, the library, and the grocery store, a family member has health problems that need a lot of attention, and on and on and on . . .

You can see that I have a lot of excuses (and the Internet wasn’t even mentioned).  Many writers in my situation write late into the night, sacrificing sleep to their muse.  I’m not one of them.  Kid #2 (the terrible sleeper) still wakes up quite a bit at night and I need every bit of shut eye I can get, since a tired Gen is a cranky Gen.

But, I am making an effort to write some, even just a little bit, everyday.  And I’m pleased to announce I’m at 13,000 words in my California historical!  So even little bits start to add up.  And don’t worry, the story is all there in my head, waiting for my fingers to put it on the page.
