Cocktail Countdown Day 6: The White Russian

CocktailCountdown

The White Russian is famous to most people my age thanks to one man: The Dude. Or El Duderino, if you’re not into that whole brevity thing. There’s a great scene in the Big Lebowski where he’s wandering through the supermarket, in shorts, an undershirt, sweater coat, and flip-flops, sunglasses hiding his eyes as he searches for the heavy cream to make his beloved White Russians.

Hold that image in your head, since I forgot to take pictures again. (And that’s pretty much how I look grocery shopping myself.) I used this recipe here and mixed it up after a long day of organizing my daughter’s room. (Want to truly understand entropy, in a way that no physics course could ever do? Try keeping a kid’s room clean.) No need for a cocktail shaker—this needs nothing more fancy than some ice and a spoon.

The first sip was kind of milkshake like. But with a heavy kick of vodka. And the kids stayed in their newly cleaned room for once, and I never had to warn them, “Careful man! There’s a beverage here!” I probably should have watched the Big Lebowski while sipping it, but instead I read a writing craft book. Which is almost the same thing.
